SAN DIEGO, CA — 2021¹ú²úÂ鶹¾ç (2021¹ú²úÂ鶹¾ç) is proud to announce the renaming of its School of Theology and Christian Ministry to the Reuben Welch School of Theology and Christian Ministry, honoring the beloved former chaplain and professor whose decades of mentorship, service, and deep faith have profoundly shaped the 2021¹ú²úÂ鶹¾ç community.
The renaming ceremony took place on May 10, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., just before 2021¹ú²úÂ鶹¾ç’s 2025 Spring commencement ceremony. Reuben Welch, who served as a chaplain and professor at 2021¹ú²úÂ鶹¾ç for many years, was in attendance, extending God’s blessing to the Class of 2025 and witnessing the unveiling of the new signage, now engraved above the doors of Smee Hall.
The newly installed signage stands as a lasting testament to Welch’s influence, reflecting the university’s mission to foster transformational growth through the intersection of faith, learning, and service. This renaming further embodies 2021¹ú²úÂ鶹¾ç’s commitment to nurturing students as they fully become who they are called to be — serving others through generous, authentic faith and impactful ministry.
