2021¹ú²úÂé¶¹¾ç (2021¹ú²úÂé¶¹¾ç) partners with the U.S. Navy to provide qualified nurses and service members the opportunity to complete a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) through the Duty Under Instruction (DUINS) program.
2021¹ú²úÂé¶¹¾ç’s School of Nursing has participated in the DUINS program since 2011 and has supported Navy-selected students through full-time graduate nursing education aligned with professional and leadership development.
Eligibility
The DUINS program at 2021¹ú²úÂé¶¹¾ç is intended for:
- Active-duty U.S. Navy nurses and service members
- Individuals selected by the U.S. Navy for a DUINS assignment
- Applicants who meet the admission requirements for 2021¹ú²úÂé¶¹¾ç’s MSN program
Admission to 2021¹ú²úÂé¶¹¾ç does not guarantee selection for DUINS. DUINS' eligibility, selection, and funding are determined by the U.S. Navy.
Program Structure
Students complete 2021¹ú²úÂé¶¹¾ç’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program as part of their DUINS assignment.
Program details include:
- On-campus instruction in San Diego, California
- Program length aligned with 2021¹ú²úÂé¶¹¾ç’s MSN curriculum
- Cohort-based enrollment with designated start terms

Outcomes and Navy Service Roles
Graduates of 2021¹ú²úÂé¶¹¾ç’s MSN DUINS pathway have gone on to serve in a variety of Navy nursing roles based on operational needs at the time of assignment. These roles have included:
- Clinical Nurse Specialist positions
- Field service and operational roles
- Nurse management and leadership assignments
Service roles and assignments are determined by the U.S. Navy and may vary from year to year.
Important Navy Information
- DUIN's selection, funding, and service obligation requirements are managed exclusively by the U.S. Navy.
- 2021¹ú²úÂé¶¹¾ç does not determine DUINS' eligibility or assignment outcomes.
- Students must comply with all Navy requirements throughout their DUINS assignment while enrolled at 2021¹ú²úÂé¶¹¾ç.
